Running is more than just a form of exercise. It is an indication of self-discipline that embodies how a person deals with pain. Running at the start of your day usually means waking up before the sun rises, battling with the temptations of blowing off the run are all part of the initial challenges. Motivation may get you on your feet, but discipline will make you last longer. Running is a test of patience. It teaches you the value of monitoring your breathing and heartbeat, embracing the pain of continuous running, and fighting the lethargy. Running is a mark of willpower. It displays how you take action on the goals you set for yourself. Running at the start of the day pushes us to develop a healthy mindset for the day.

Relaxation

Running also serves as a form of relaxation. Nature is most beautiful when the sun is about to rise. There will be fewer people and more chirping birds as the day awakens. The sound of the wind will also be calming–letting you unwind even when you’re fighting the pain that initially comes with running. An early morning run will also give you the opportunity to appreciate the raw beauty of nature with the sunrise.

A boost of endorphins

When exercising, the body releases chemicals called endorphins. They function by interacting with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Running definitely increases endorphin levels–resulting in “Runner’s High.” It is that sense of deep relaxation after accomplishing your morning run. This lasts for hours, assisting you in staying motivated throughout the day given that you have already succeeded with one of the biggest challenges.

Time effective

Once you’ve finished your early workout of the day, it means that you have the whole day to do other things. Running early lets you accomplish things as fast as possible–the tendency is that after a run, you would already feel awake and be motivated to do other things. If you have work during the day, you would no longer have to worry about inserting a workout after a long day at the office. 

Feelings of accomplishment

People who run early often have the same mindset– the feeling of accomplishment.  With a boost of endorphins and that feeling of accomplishment, you will have the energy and mental acuity to make the most of each day and be the best version of yourself. The commitment to achieving your early morning run also gives you the encouragement to stay on track.

Better sleep

Running promotes better sleep because once you’ve exhausted that surge of energy during the morning until the afternoon; you will most likely be tired in the evening. Your body will be too tired to function and will naturally fall asleep. As compared to an evening run, the increase of endorphins would certainly keep you awake during the night.

Hence, running is a great form of exercise that will shape both your body and well-being. Wanting to start your day right is already a good indicator of your willingness to start committing to your fitness journey and healthy living lifestyle.
