Atlanta was established in 1837 when Georgia’s first railroad tracks were being built in the mid-1830s. There were routes coming from Athens, Augusta, Macon, and Savanah. However, “some twenty-five years later, the state not only could claim more rail miles than any other in the Deep South, but also had linked its major towns and created a new rail center known as Atlanta.” Currently, it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States and continues to remain a transportation hub that links various places in the country.
